Some wild shows this week! Summer is in full swing and it’s hot af here in New York. Alex is back from Australia, Greg is back from Spain, I think, (isn’t he drumming in the legendary Cende on Saturday?) and I’m still trying to get Billy’s Record Shop fully set up and open full time like. Stay tuned for end-of-Summer Grand Opening party details. In the meantime, live from New York it’s……This Week at Baby’s! with….. Little Dragon?! Test Subjects?! ********* surprise release show?! And so much more….
MONDAY:
WAVEFORM, TAGABOW, TEETHE (630PM) <18+> I haven't joyously yelped from a lineup quite like I did for this one. The waveform* record lives rent free on our turntable at home thanks to Beth Townsend. TAGABOW have played some of my all time favourite Baby's shows. Teethe were one of the true highlights of SXSW. This is going to be so great, this is just going to rule.” - Alex
“REALLY great lineup of amazing indie rock bands, should be a decent 250+ crowd, really sweet and good.” - Greg
“Stumbled upon the awesome waveform* at Purgatory right when world came back to life. They looked like they were in highschool but playing the music I loved in highschool? The singer was even wearing a Bends-era Radiohead shirt which warmed my heart. I was and am so happy they exist.” - Billy
BIG JOANIE (930PM) <18+> Rescheduled from earlier this year, which only let the anticipation grow. Everyone seems to love Big Joanie, supporting the likes of Sleater Kinney (<3) and Gossip (<3). In My Arms is a near perfect song, pure melody.” - Alex
TUESDAY:
GAO THE ARSONIST (630PM) <AA> Gao makes his NY debut with Perry Maysun, Young Wabo & Dedkaydence. Footage of his live show looks wild, BLEED is reason enough to get yourself front-left.
CUOVO w/ Endearments & O.Wake (930PM) <21+> Cuovo is power poppy syrup and it's addictive. Endearments are dream pop syrup and it's addictive. O.Wake sits somewhere between, and you know what? Addictive.
WEDNESDAY:
TEST SUBJECTS (630PM) <21+> Test Subjects released a criminally underappreciated LP in 2021, Boy Next Door was undeniably a song of the 2022 Summer, and now they're going to play the best show of all time in 2023 Summer. What's next?
“I’m a huge fan of whatever Melody and Sam do but this project is something else. I remember finally (Sam!) hearing demos of their record and having to pull over off the Interstate from becoming light headed from how beautiful the tunes were.” - Billy
MILLER BLUE (930PM <18+> Miller Blue has a voice that'll make you go ooooh. If you like Bakar, swooning, or music, then you're going to like this.
THURSDAY:
********** RELEASE PARTY (8PM) <21+> “We can't announce this yet but one of our favourite bands are celebrating the release of their hot hot hot new album and jesus christ on a stick I'm realizing now that I'm going to be at Baby's every night this week somebody call the nurse.” - Alex
“My angel friends are releasing an album that is so insanely good. This is a free party to help celebrate that. 2 performers + DJ's after, lovely time…” - Greg
FRIDAY:
LITTLE DRAGON (8PM) <18+> Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh exciting this is so exciting. - Alex
One of the coolest things we have going for us this week/month/summer/year/our lives. - Greg
"This still bangs.” - Billy
DOLLAR BIN DISCO (8PM) <21+> “Aidan Kennedy has quickly become a true homie to the Baby's household, Dollar Bin Disco is a fan favourite. FREE and FUN come party after the indie underplay of the year.” - Greg
“Sounds like my kinda party.” - Billy
SATURDAY:
CENDE (7PM) <21+> “Greg texted me and was like "hold these dates for a Cende reunion" and I thought he was joking. He wasn't. Final tickets here, come get sweaty and watch an old favourite play like they never even left.” - Alex
“Some shit-ass band reunites. Should be 300+ or so friends/fans of a band I was in that broke up 6 years ago. It'll be really fun =)” - Greg
“I didn’t even know Greg or that Greg was in Cende when Cameron first sent me the tracks. Not normally my thing but these were perfectly written concise bursts of pure medlodic power punk poppish blasts of brilliance that kinda reminded me of like the Shins if they knew how to rock out.” - Billy
SUNDAY:
ACTIVITY (6:30PM) <21+> “The new Activity songs rule. They feel smokey and cinematic, without overdoing it. They're building something special, and have a live show to match.” - Alex
“Really beautiful music, hot vibe.”- Greg
DIANNA LOPEZ (930PM) <21+> Another with some incredible new music. The first time I heard Dianna was on Chrysalis, and I was fully taken. It's only grown since, 12th House feels so assured, 'nerves' is glorious and understated.” - Alex
“She's a star, for sure. Excited to see how the room feels. She's played here a bunch and I'm always like "next time it's a stadium"... maybe that will be this time?” - Greg
