Hey hey. Lots of fun stuff to talk about. Not only do we have a stacked week ahead at our esteemed South Williamsburg home base, but we’re also packing up to head down to Austin Texas for the week. Keep an eye on your inbox for more on that verrrrry soon.
We can’t wait to see you, whether in Texas or Williamsburg. - Caroline
MONDAY:
PORIJ (6:30PM) <18+> Manchester POP group over here for their special US run. They have a jam-packed day full of sessions, so I think this act is on the rise. Super electro-happy - here's a brand new song =^) - Greg
I just refuse to believe there is a world in which Porij aren't complete angels. Music reminds me of some of my favorite Melbourne acts growing up, like KLLO, Huntly etc. It's going to happen for them, this'll be the start of something big. Feel it in ma bones! - Alex
Very fun to get the opportunity to witness a band right before they blow up. This will be their first ever show in the US, and I’m excited that we’ll be at the beginning of their journey. I just (finally) watched Oppenheimer, and this feels like their Trinity test moment. - Caroline
TUESDAY:
RACHEL CHINOURIRI (6:30PM) <AA+> Night two of two sold out evenings with this British artist who puts out wonderfully catchy music. Really sweet team, all ages... expecting the kids to come out and enjoy this star!! - Greg
Baby's going global this week for sure. Rachel returns, new single devastatingly good. 1+1's were the bane of my existence in 2023, but this year they are HITTING. - Alex
You heard it on Sunday, come running back for more. Another smash of a night with delightful tunes out of the UK. - Caroline
WEDNESDAY:
KRISTIANE (6:30PM) <AA+> Genres on google include "pop" and "children's music" which I sort of get but not really... signed to the FADER Label, I knew this artist was from LA the second I clicked on the first song. I was right (always am). There's something super gravitating here. Story songs (my favorite). - Greg
I will never EVER begrudge the return of pop-rock. This feels like an edgy Jenny Lewis moment. I wish more things in life deserved "feels like a Jenny Lewis moment". I wish my life felt like a Jenny Lewis moment. - Alex
Super excited that Susannah Joffe is opening this one, definitely recommend getting there early enough to catch her set if you’re into songs that sound absolutely heavenly. Kind of a Clairo thing going on. - Caroline
THURSDAY:
WILEY BECKETT + SACK LUNCH! (9:30PM) <21+> This kid looks like 20% of the individuals I went to High School with. Super sweet seeming, local songwriter up for the big gig at Babies. Here's their TINY DESK submission video. Might move this to 8PM doors - what do you say, @Alex Gleeson ? - Greg
These kids sell shows out for fun. This one is NO different, chasing that 300 sold sticker like no one's bizness. - Alex
Local indie-pop recent baby’s grads Boys Go To Jupiter on the lead up for this one, another killer bill. Gonna be some happy faces in that crowd. - Caroline
FRIDAY:
HOUSE OF DISCO (11PM) <21+> It's in the name, isn't it?? The last party we had with PAUZ was great, this one is shaping up to be the same. - Greg
Speaking of selling tix like they're candy, PAUZ Presents are a MACHINE. Y'all like this stuff, come dance. - Alex
Wear something like this. - Caroline
SATURDAY:
PUSH UPS + HER NEW KNIFE (7PM) <18+> Sick show with bands reminiscent of Ovlov a bit (for me only, maybe??). Rising indie stars. - Greg
Bamm Bamm is a friend of Baby. Everything Matt slings us is a hitter. Push Ups blew my mind at the Voyeur show. I've always loved Harry Teardrop's music, so it's cool to see where Push Ups are going. Everyone keeps telling me I'd dig Her New Knife. Let's find out together? - Alex
Really excited about this one, Lola Star and Bedridden are up first, heavier shoegaze. - Caroline
PISSED JEANS (11PM) <18+> Second event with Saint Vitus brings us one of the best live bands I've ever seen (shout out to Evil Weevil Fest in the early 2010's for bringing me to an armory in PHILLY to see this band smash while wrestling was happening right next to us. - Greg
Best fucking band. This will rule. - Alex
Depraved, delicious punk out of the great state of Pennsylvania. - Caroline
BABY'S PRESENTS: COWGIRL CLUE @ MARKET HOTEL
There was a minute during Pandemic where I'd walk my block listening to this on repeat. I think it was between my 6th and 7th nervous breakdown. Cowgirl Clue is a freaking party, and this is coming home hot. Buy now, or cry. - Alex
SUNDAY:
MEERNAA (6:30PM) <21+> Indie artist on Keeled Scales (does Trevor still work there?) Seems to be a critically acclaimed debut record out there from last year. There's a writeup somewhere by Vrinda Jagota (one of the coolest people alive, imho). So Far So Good slaps. - Greg
Latest record hits in all the right ways. My guess is that Meernaa has a strong handful of fans in The Yard shared office space. Either that, or she's soundtracking their nightmares, due to the frequency with which I work with 'So Far So Good' blasting from our office space. - Alex
Beautiful songwriting, music sounds a bit like Jessica Pratt. - Caroline
This Week At Baby’s Official Playlist
