“Wow, another week has passed and wtf, am I right? Here we find ourselves again trying to come up with an introduction to the rundown of world class programming we have yet again lined up for you, New York (ie. May Rio on Thursday).

MONDAY: 

MALICK KOLY (9PM) <21+> “There are only two tracks released on Malick Koly's latest project, under his own name. They're enough for me to really, really want to hear more. Super interesting songwriting, gorgeous vocals, muted with an edge of darkness. A project that is building towards something great.” - Alex

“I've never heard of this guy before this confirmation, but his universe is huge - we're talking legendary orbit with the likes of Steve Jordan, Ron Carter, etc. Experimental sets from support + DJ's, and what I can only imagine to be a very cool 75 minute performance by Malick; percussive and jazzy and GOOD. Elijah is working because he's tapped in with the artists. This is a last minute confirmation of sorts, but a perfect booking for Juneteenth. Should be a very special night <3.” - Greg

TUESDAY:

GREG FREEMAN W/ HANK, PRECIOUS HUMAN (630PM) <18+> “I know this record came out in 2022, but I only heard it for the first time this year, so for me, Greg is my favourite new artist of '23. If those rules are good enough for the Grammys 'Best New Artist', then... etc. He's taken Jason Molina, given it a modern spin, and I'm obsessed with the production. Teaming up with Hank to make this a truly eclectic Tuesday bill. Hank writes ear worms and I fuck w that, someone get Call Me Hank on a college movie soundtrack STAT. Precious Human blew me away at the Big Dumb Baby album release, and I'm sure Christian'll do it again. Special night.” - Alex  

“The reincarnation of Songs: Ohia, but from Vermont and with a modern fling. Really cool record came out this year - this show is supported by the Kerwin Group, Hank, and Precious Human. Although sales are sitting at around 50-60, I assume walkup with the Bushwick hot indie sleeze crowd will be somewhat notable, especially since You Missed It is somehow involved in this one!” - Greg

“Both Johnny Beach and Ethan texted me about list. That coupled with Alex and Greg’s endorsement it’s pretty much a no brainer 97.5% chance appearance for me.” - Billy

GLOVE W/ AMITURE, DREW MCBRIDE DJ (DEEPER)  (630PM) <18+> - “Glove supported Nation of Language at Baby's last year, and there was universal "we gotta get them back" energy in the room. Live/live/live band, music for dank and sweaty club rooms. Note to Elijah, the evening's tech... get those lights moving. Amiture (DPI Music aka Tom Moore) have had some top secret rehearsals in the Baby live room, and the set gets better every damn time. Pls give a warm welcome to Drew McBride, a new member of the baby's DJ fraternity. We love his band Deeper, deeply.” - Alex

“HOT UK group who usually supports superstars Nation Of Language both here and in London. Sweethearts, truly. Supported by DPI's own AMITURE. DJ'd by sweetheart angel Drew of DEEPER.” - Greg

JIMMY WHISPERS W/ LIONLIMB (930PM) <21+> - “Beth Townsend raves about Jimmy, and rightfully so. A passionate muso with music to match, True Love Is Freedom almost gives LUCY vibes, and I've heard the live show hits. Whenever Lionlimb play Baby's, at least one bartender is fkn stoked, and we all know the true W is winning over the bar staff.” - Alex

MAY RIO W/ ERNEST RAREBERRG (930PM) <21+> - “I've not seen a more widely adored record within the NYC scene since I moved here. Like, EVERYONE lost their minds last wk. Rightly so, it's almost perfect. NYC UMTs has been stuck in my head for what feels like forever. Not angry about that, yet. Ernest again, Ernest forever.” - Alex 

“NYC socialite and everyone's biggest crush, May Rio, releases a record and boy is it amazing. The drummer is a real cutie for this one. Special night full of friends at Baby's All Right. Hip crowd who call this place their own. Ernest supporting <3” - Greg (he didn’t tell you but he plays on the record some I think)

CUB SPORT (7PM) <18+> “Cub Sport continue the theme of Australian bands obliterating the Baby stage, and that makes me beam. Jesus At The Gay Bar is in contention for best album name of the year, and it's glorious. The production has taken them down a darker, dirty housey lane.” - Alex

DOLLAR BIN DISCO (11PM) <21+> “After a sparkling debut post-Avalon Emerson, Dollar Bin Disco returns to the front bar. Completely free, playing hits that'll keep you on the floor through to close. Have you been to Baby's for a front bar party? It's a sleeper for one of the best spots to boogie in NYC, no word of a lie (or bias, obviously).” - Alex

BOYISH W/ BEL (7PM) <AA> "Fuck You Heather" has been burned into my brain, ever since the Ella Jane show in Dec 2021. Boyish were on support, and it was one helluva night. I've wanted them back since then, and this Saturday, we get our chance. EXTREMELY limited tix remain here, literally like 10.” - Alex  

+++++++ (11PM) <21+> “++++ has been throwing parties in the front this past 2 months, and on the request of ++++ (and the staff who have worked his last handful of jaunts), we're shifting this thing to the live room baby. GLARE w/ Alien Boy (6:30PM) <AA+> “Everyone's favourite new(ish) industry directory, ROSTR, called it last week - Glare are "killing it right now". It's heavy as shit, a sharp left turn on this week in terms of sound. Shoegazey emo, perfect way to test out the Baby's sound system to its full capacity. We got dbl headline energies here too, Alien Boy rule. I'm on the way to getting very, very in to this band. The Way I Feel is a true sizzler. Perfect for the angry-sads.” - Alex
