SATURDAY:
PSYMON SPINE (7PM) <21+> PS supported by my new favorite band Fantasy Of A Broken Heart and Sweet (angels) Lightning. - Greg
Beautiful lineup, definitely don’t miss this opportunity to see fantasy.
Truly epic lineup. Sweet Lightning are an enigma, filling rooms without a single fucking song ANYWHERE (except on Youtube, but Gabe keeps telling me it ain't like that anymore. I've been ready for those masters for a year now Gabe, c'mon now!) Fantasy gets better every time I see them. The song that goes "your heart stops beating" is peak. And Psymon Spine... baby's staple. First time I caught them was juuuust post-panini, and damn, it was a moment. Let's go, Saturday is for the players. - Alex
WARNER CASE (11PM) <21+> Release party for WARNER CASE through LUNAR LOUNGE. DJ's till 4am. - Greg
Easy listening house is what I’d call it. It’ll be fun. - Caroline
SUNDAY:

Well do you fuck with rock and roll or not? - Caroline
Last Nite.
A friend of the Babyverse tells us about a cool show they went to.
Andrés Worstell, a grad student in the dramatic writing program at NYU, writer, and musician who loves going to Arby’s, tells us about the Pissed Jeans show we threw with St. Vitus.
Had the privilege of experiencing the Pissed Jeans record release show at Baby’s All Right a few nights ago and it was as rowdy as loud as you could hope for. First on the lineup was Ecology: HomeStones, a noise act that involved one man in a monster costume and his animatronic buddy that resembled a dancing rotisserie chicken. I loved every second of this. The soundscape created went back and forth between dialogue from what sounded like PSA’s from the 1950s and incredibly loud electronic noise. If this sounds like an exciting Saturday for you, I highly recommend you seek out this act.
Next up was a metal-core band, Eyes Flys, who prefaced their performance with the fact that, now that they’d opened for Pissed Jeans, they could break-up. I understand the sentiment (Pissed Jeans are that good) but Eyes Flys more than held their own—they played a solid set of heavy, groovy tracks from a variety of recent EP’s and LP’s that I ultimately could not keep track of but appreciated nonetheless.
I had never seen Pissed Jeans before my experience at Baby’s All Right but afterwards I couldn’t imagine my life without having seen them. An incredibly solid live act with a chemistry that only comes from years playing together, Pissed Jeans ripped through a number of songs from their new LP Half Divorced (out on Sub Pop,) with absolutely ferocious energy. Singer Matt Korvette alternates between aggressive vocals and stand-up comedy; in regards to his band’s set starting at 1 AM in the morning, he said: “You know the last time I stayed up this late…was last night—because I kick-ass all the time.” I couldn’t disagree as I watched the man barrel through a number of aggressive tracks full-tilt, while engaging in some choreography that could only be described as hilariously intense, backed up by an incredibly committed and blisteringly energetic rhythm section. Watching this band perform, I asked myself—is there a more punk-rock town than Allentown, PA? (Where the band is from). And I couldn’t answer that question because I was born in Hershey (and never visited Allentown).
I kept thinking throughout their set “THIS is a rock band.” Baby’s All Right served as a suitably rousing venue for the group, despite the late start-time. Reservations about the lateness of the hour were quickly dispelled by an enthusiastic crowd ready to hear some punishing riffs—I returned home at 3 AM absolutely exhausted but content.
