It's a feeling <3
Earnestly saying I feel so blessed to be around so much special music all of the time. On Saturday at Night Club 101, Eliana Glass gave a rendition of On the Way Down that had me weepy crumpled up into Oscar’s shoulder. On Friday I saw Nourished by Time at C2C, and had last seen him live at that show we put on with him + YHWH Nailgun + Strange Ranger (</3) in 2022. His confidence and presence and songs have developed into something so grand and truly singular, witnessing it inspired and vibrated every cell in my body. Anyway, thanks for reading, thanks for showing up. I just feel very grateful to be alive in New York City. - Caroline
++~~ one more thing! we’re hiring for a few hourly positions. inquire within. ~~++
MONDAY:
EARLY: NANA GRIZOL (7:00PM) <21+>
Pavement disciples from Atlanta, Nana Grizol present songs in the folk-punk pocket, many of which are nature themed, grounded in acoustic guitars. Pleasant, to be sure. - Caroline
TUESDAY:
EARLY: KATELYN TARVER (7:00PM) <AA>
More Georgia, but now LA. Katelyn is a pop star in process, production on her new record is good, songs remind me of Chappell or maybe even a little bit older Miley Cyrus, country-pop for ya. - Caroline
WEDNESDAY:
EARLY: SHREEA KAUL (6:30PM) <18+>
Danceable, seductive, her debut record from last year is giving divine feminine, support from SYTE, clean sounds here. - Caroline
LATE: PIGEON PIT (9:30PM) <18+>
Pigeon Pit is raw and tender yet loud and scrappy in all the best ways. Their folk-punk lyricism feels safe and understanding, whether you fully relate or not. Expect a cathartic night that oscillates between falling apart and pulling it back together. - Ava
Don’t miss Pigeon Pit bring their frantic, acoustic emo to life with a full band this week. I’ve been a fan of Walter Mitty and His Makeshift Orchestra since college—Overwhelmed and Underdressed was necessary listening while freaking out over finals. - Eli
THURSDAY:
EARLY: SLUICE (7:00PM) <21+>
From Durham, North Carolina, Sluice captures the sound of life among those southeastern forests like no other. This week, they’ll be bringing that energy to Baby’s All Right as they swing through Brooklyn during their ongoing release tour, joined by local legends Hiding Places. - Baby Intern Ava
Sluice brings its blend of noisy indie rock, melodic guitars, and driving rhythms for a strong start to the weekend. A great pick for fans of loud, thoughtful guitar music. - Manny
sluice (noun): an artificial passage for water (as in a millstream) fitted with a valve or gate for stopping or regulating flow; a body of water pent up behind a floodgate. Seeing Sluice play at one of god’s great American bars, Tweedy’s, two years ago was such a beautiful memory. I was with Greg and Alex and Dawood was there and it was like 1 in the afternoon. I remember crying when I heard this song, hence the namesake of the band, I suppose. The music is delicate but chipped, rough around the edges, earthy, ever so restrained, punctuated with vignettes and memories of childhood. It hits me in the gut. - Caroline
FRIDAY:
EARLY: NEVER ENDING FALL (7:00PM) <18+>
NEF delivers an energetic mix of alternative rock and emo influences, with big hooks and a live show built for singing along. - Manny
Indie rock, pop punk inspired. I’m feeling some Two Door Cinema Club hard in this one. They’ve been a band since they were in the fourth grade, which presumably was some time ago. - Caroline
LATE: CLUB SLAYY + HYPERPOP NIGHT (10:00PM) <21+>
We all know Slayyyter’s new album slaps, so let’s get in a room and dance about it ok? - Eli
I want beat up chanel$. Slayyyter-adjacent club dance night. She’s not gonna be there, unless she is. - Caroline
SATURDAY:
EARLY: MAL BLUM (7:00PM) <18+>
Mal Blum headlines with sharp songwriting, honest lyricism, and a mix of indie folk and punk that feels both personal and engaging live. Our very own Elise (MVP door warrior) opens up the night with her band Oceanator. - Manny
LATE: BABY DANCE (11:00PM) <21+>
Big old bill presented by Alt Citizen, 1800-Girlfriend, and EnterMedia2. Two different entities that go by Handsome Rob, including our very own bartender, one DJing and one hosting. Bands are Komodos, Boxxer, LAVELLES, and Pretty Girls Watching. Free, as forever, as always. - Caroline
SUNDAY:
EARLY: CAT CLYDE (7:00PM) <21+>
Oh yes, this right here. Melancholic, folksy, Canadian homegrown organic non-GMO whole grain bluesy country music. I read she records most of her songs fully live, which is clear in how full and robust they sound. The live set is sure to be so dialed. Only a smattering of tix remain. - Caroline
This Week At Baby’s Official Playlist
and, just for fun, a new one from GB, delightfully mathy.
