July 27th - August 2nd
It's a feeling <3
I think we can say we’re crossing the threshold into the second act of summer.August is approaching fast, but we show no signs of slowing down over here. Fully stacked week with a good blend of rookies and all-stars, something for us all. - Caroline
TUESDAY:
EARLY: SKYDADDY (6:30PM) <21+>
Skydaddy’s sound feels suspended in midair, like a house on a cloud. The music is soft but not to be mistaken as fragile. Gentle, spacious, and surprisingly playful, their songs gracefully invite you in instead of demanding your attention. - Baby Intern Ava
Skydaddy is a solo project of the artist Rachid Fahkre, who has quite the mythology around him. He's a collaborator of Black Country, New Road, he opened for Cameron Winter in London, he has hosted writers circles around NYC, and he played 101 last summer to a rapt crowd. Happy to have him back through to the big baby. Danashevsakaya is no longer the best kept secret, and for good reason. Her whispery folk songs feel like lullabies. - Caroline
LATE: JUSTINE SKYE (9:30PM) <18+>
Justine Skye has been quietly putting out some of the smoothest R&B of the last decade. Her latest work leans into sleek production but stays grounded and vulnerable. This is bound to be an effortlessly cool and highly danceable evening. - Baby Intern Ava
WEDNESDAY:
EARLY: CRUZ BECKHAM (6:30PM) <AA>
Son of those two, of course, has a newly minted rock n roll outfit that he’s taking for a spin on Wednesday on our stage. Support from The Baxbys. Over/under bets on parental attendance? - Caroline
LATE: SHANNON SHAW BAND (9:30PM) <21+>
Oakland legend Shannon Shaw (of The Clams fame) brings the Shannon Shaw Band to Baby’s this week. Given my Bay roots this is a special one and you will find me there! - Eli
THURSDAY:
EARLY: HOLY ROLLER (7:00PM) <18+>
Big sound from these Richmond cats. Heavy set honky tonk, southern charm all the way down. “Support” comes in the form of Scuff Western, who will be hosting a line dancing lesson before the set. Wear boots. - Caroline
FRIDAY:
EARLY: ZOH AMBA (7:00PM) <21+>
One of the coolest of new wave jazz-cum-Americana artists gracing this nation. Muddy raw acoustic blues, tender Appalachian songwriting. They sold out 101 in April. Released Eyes Full last month. Time for Baby’s. Supported by Jeanne River this is some expert shit! - Oscar
Free jazz, avant-garde, earthy Appalachian saxophonic rock music for the thinker, recently endorsed by Matador. Zoh’s mythology is wide. They studied sax under David Murray, Their drummer is Jim White (of the Dirty Three), Zoh plays in Iggy Pop’s band, and when Zoh played at 101 a few months or so ago, the room was humming, feels like the precipice of something. - Caroline
LATE: SILK NODE (11:00PM) <21+>
Silk Node is back with the second edition of Blog Haus, their summer residency series. If you missed the last one, don’t do that again. Cities Aviv, Patch +, Peace Thru Strength (members of YHWH Nailgun) and boysinblush (Suzy Sheer). A lean night. - Eli
the second in our party series with new blogging platform Silk Node. Was wonderful fun last time and this time shall prove no different. Cities Aviv headlining which is no regular occurence. Patch+ off the back of their excellent new record Series A. DJ sets from boysinblush (Suzy Sheer) and Peace Thru Strength (YHWH Nailgun). Eclectic stuff. - Oscar
Brilliant bill, the last party was fun. The new Patch+ record is good, and a Cities Aviv live set is lighting in a bottle. Peace Thru Strength (YHWH Nailgun improv offshoot) is a fun one as well, always really enjoy those sets. Easy Friday full night baby hang for me. - Caroline
