Hi hi happy Tuesday. I really hope you got to do some photosynthesizing on that beautiful Sunday we had. But now Alex and I are wistfully staring out a rainy window…Anyhow, things are ramping up into springtime mode here at The old Babe. We’ve got lots of exciting shows to tell you about, soon soon soon. This week is no exception, let us know what you’re coming to. - Caroline
TUESDAY:
GENGAHR (6:30PM) <21+>
Smooth start to an especially international week at the cultural hotbed that is Baby, Alright. Nice amount a boog to Gengahr. Dance off the droplets! I can't believe I missed all that freaking sunshine on the weekend. - Alex
Hackney lads from across the pond making smooth indie pop music. It's making me bop my little bobby pin head side to side. All videos seem to have the same aesthetic which is cute. - Greg
Making their big US debut at our humble home. We’re honored to have them, this’ll be a fun night. - Caroline
DOMO GENESIS (9:30PM) <18+>
As per Oldie "It's still Mr. Smoke-a-Lotta-Pot". Everyone stole that track but Domo reaaaally came in hot. Don't sleep on his 2023 record with all-timer, The Alchemist. Both these are pushing sellout, I like it for a night! -Alex
Originally famed from the odd future collective, Domo is an extremely talented rapper. I really love this new minimalist track/video. Feels kind of more old school in a way. Idk I'm really feeling it actually. - Greg
You know him from the days of OFWGKTA 🍩, and you’ll love him for what he’s making now. Clever lines and a stacked roster of features. - Caroline
WEDNESDAY:
REMEMBERING ANTMAN (8:30PM) <AA+> It's in remembrance of musician Antman, who was a studied and masterful musician. - Greg + Alex + Caroline
THURSDAY:
GEORGIA GETS BY (6:30PM) <18+>
Grew up around the corner (New Zealand) from where I grew up! (Australia). I need two hands to count how many times I've seen BROODS. That, combined with Georgia signing to Luminelle (looove) had me hooked from the start! Start here and keep digging - Alex
Originally more of an electronic artist, this is the indie pop project from Georgia Nott. Wow is it heavy(EMOTIONALLY)/good. This is awesome. Check this and come see it with me =) - Greg
Really really beautiful songwriting here, a dynamic listen that isn’t lacking in the lyrical depth department. - Caroline
ENOLA GAY (9:30PM) <18+>
Loud screecher's from the UK, presented by St Vitus! (Go support our favorite Greenpoint hang HERE) Slated to be one of the buzziest names in Austin next week, come catch them early or live to hate yourself forever. -Alex
It's like a goddamned British takeover this week. These heavy/psych-y post punk heroes are headlining our first of many Saint Vitus Presents shows. Really excited for this collab all around. I've been a fan of St. Vitus and their black toilets forever. - Greg
This night starts mellow and ends heavy as fuck. This is gonna be a big, loud show for the heads. - Caroline
FRIDAY:
FISH NARC & HORSE HEAD (7PM) <18+>
Stacked lineup w/ Fish Narc joining Horse Head, Zubin, Boys in Blush. this joint from fish narc x horse head has me hyped, wbu? - Alex
This is a genre I'm a little out of the loop on. Seems like a specific almost adult version of soundcloud rap. I'm curious, but trust Natasha Parish with my life, honestly. If she's co-signing I feel like it's gotta be a hit. - Greg
Webby, lo-fi, a little indie, a little rap, a little goth. - Caroline
¡VAMOS A PERREAR! (11PM) <21+>
From the partiers behind 'NOCHE DE VERANO SIN TI' comes BBB - a special edition dance party for fans of Bad Bunny. - Alex
Night one of Benito's Birthday Bash for adults, DJ party by Ben Schechter and Ican Boyers. - Greg
SUNDAY:
RACHEL CHINOURIRI (6:30PM) <AA+>
verrrry good pop from the UK. Bebe Stockwell on support, which is something I've wanted to write in one of these emails for 2+ years!!!! - Alex
Night one of TWO sold out evenings with this British artist who puts out wonderfully catchy music. Really sweet team, all ages... expecting the kids to come out to these !! - Greg
She is an absolute STAR making excellent pop tunes. Got a kick out of this video. - Caroline
¡VAMOS A PERREAR! (9:30PM) <21+> The AA version of Friday night's party!! - Greg
BONUS: BABY’S PRESENTS Mint Field at Alphaville
Definitely don’t miss out on this one, CDMX natives bringing psychy-shoegazey goodness to your local indie venue. - Caroline
Last Nite.
A friend of the Babyverse tells us about a cool show they went to.
Christopher and Ally, beloved beholders of the esteemed 𝓑𝓪𝓫𝔂 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓲𝓷 𝓸𝓯 𝓛𝓲𝓯𝓮* tell us about one of the Provoker shows from the weekend.
*btw, if you want to get like Chris and Ally with unlimited access to our shows, the way is the Chain.
“Attending the sold out Provoker show at baby’s on saturday night (kudos to baby’s for nailing the perfect crowd density on this one) felt as euphoric and transporting as nailing the shortcut on mario kart’s koopa beach three laps in a row. LA-based Provoker debuted their second album, demon compass, in NYC saturday night at the first of two intimate weekend shows at the illustrious baby’s all right (sunday night added, also sold out) to a crowd undoubtably lured by the broody hedonism of one of provoker’s many bangers popping up on their spotify new releases algorithm (us), their collab Freezing Alive featuring Eyedress (also us) or by their baby’s chain (err guess that’d be us too). Provoker’s sound is addictive, incantatory, intoxicating and yearning, with an irresistible synth-forward backbone. Regardless of why you came, by the time you left there was no doubt why the sinister yet dopaminergic offerings of provoker make them one our favorite bands right now.
Provoker treated the baby’s crowd to a no-nonsense hour of unadulterated hits, including personal favorites C Ur Face, It’s in my Head, and Dark Angel, all of which make anyone who loves a good inner monologue, a good synth beat and a little lead singer sad boy swagger (more is more when it comes to the size of your hoop earring) an instant Provoke-head.
Bathed in a sultry red glow courtesy of baby’s iconic stage lights, Provoker’s saturday night show crystalized why this space is the perfect vessel for up and coming, soon to be cult favorite bands to commune with everyone in the room, from the bartenders in the back (shout out to jeff !), to the rails, to the girl up front Christian sweetly stopped the set to apologize to for kicking in the head after launching himself into the crowd, as they take over the world. With lyrics that are equal parts self-loathing melancholia and brooding yet idealistic hedonism, Provoker absolutely killed it and we can’t wait to catch them again at baby’s soon. In a world where so much can seem uncertain and ephemeral, it’s nice to be able to escape into something it feels good to be upset about.”
