Ok ok ok I’m sorry I missed last week’s stack. I didn’t forget about you. Hopefully you didn’t forget about us or get up to too much nonsense…only the right amount. We’ve got a fun fun fun week ahead, lots of friends and regulars, and plenty of new fresh faces that we’re excited to have.
Also, since you’re here, I’m gonna do something sweet for you, oh dear reader: I have a pair of tickets to give away for the Gooseberry/Mary Shelley show on Thursday of this week. They might be for you. Send through an email to caroline@babysallright.com with your name, and let me know what other shows you’re excited about coming up. I’ll let you know by Wednesday if these tix are yours. Love you. - Caroline
MONDAY:
SADIE JEAN (6:30PM) <AA+> Internet pop from LA (surprise!!) She's a rising star with more followers than I could imagine ever even really... wanting?? maybe. Should be one for the kid's books! "I wish you would text and I wish you would caalllll" (relatable) - Greg
Night two of Sadie's gorgeous pop bangers. Her voice is great and the production is so clean. Jake Minch is an ideal support here, no doubt on the ascension in his own right, with a baby's sellout on the horizon I'm sure. - Alex
This is what the industry calls a rising star. She’s got great talent, a massively dedicated fanbase, and so much potential, I’m happy we have her for two nights. - Caroline
TUESDAY:
HENRY MOODIE (6:30PM) <AA+> Okay, if we describe Sadie Jean as the above, Henry is like the steroid version of that! This show sold out instantly. 20 year old YouTube star, when I looked up his name the first question was "How did Henry Moodie Get Famous?" and this is what they say, my dears: "...During this period, Moodie was gaining confidence as a vocalist, uploading covers of songs from the likes of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to his YouTube and Instagram pages. It was explicitly his cover of Shawn Mendes' “In My Blood” that helped him get noticed and discovered by a prospective manager." - Greg
Is Pop the theme this week? Sometimes these things fall in a way that just makes sense. Henry Moodie continues the 1+1 run. Another with a voice that'll stop you in your tracks. - Alex
Heard his hit while in an uber the other day. I get why the kids are coming out in full force for two nights on this one. - Caroline
JANE LAI (9:30PM) <21+> Jane isn't famous (anywhere except north BK and Queens, that I KNOW of) but absolutely should be. Celebrating her single release - she's such a wonderful songwriter with incredible vocals and a generous spirit. Supported by Lena Bartels, who I know will be a legend within this lifetime (in love with this album), and Leah Rando whomst I just met at my favorite coffee shop and told me I don't need to pay next time (I will hold you to that). - Greg
After years of emailing I finally met Jane at the Mei Semones show. Everything Greg said is true, and the lineup is incredible. Every time I get to see Lena Bartels lie I feel I leave better for it. - Alex
A beloved character in the Honore square universe. - Caroline
WEDNESDAY:
HENRY MOODIE (6:30PM) <AA+> So nice we had to do it twice =^) <3 (kiss kiss) sold out (again) - Greg
Back once again! - Alex
LADY DONLI (9:30PM) <21+> Holy shit... I'll never be able to get this song out of my head and I truly don't mind at all, my life is better and happier now!!! MFM nice show - Greg
So glad to see these tix motoring along. Lady Donli writes ear worms that'll simply refuse to leave Greg's head. - Alex
Absolute TREAT - Caroline
THURSDAY:
AARON LEE TASJAN (6:30PM) <21+> What a sweet seeming lad (I wrote that sentence before I looked him up and saw this video and was like... maybe not, but also maybe still!) Only time will tell =) - Greg
When I booked this, I thought I was getting myself into some cheeky, swashbuckling Americana. But Aaron's new album takes elements of 90's Beck, and it's totally thrown me... in a good way! - Alex
Ok the older stuff is wistful, folksy, but the new stuff? Campy and theatrical - Caroline
GOOSEBERRY (9:30PM) <21+> They seem like some Brooklyn living lads I'd see on the street and think to myself "I definitely know that person from something... right?" Someone's getting rockignized at some point in either direction, I'm sure. I do love that their bio starts with "Who or What is Gooseberry?" What a good fuccking question to pose as an opening line!! Supported by Mary Shelly (do you still live upstairs?) and Bend. One for the homies. - Greg
Rock n Roll nightclub for the shredders! - Alex
Just some good local live music. Pure fun on this one. - Caroline
FRIDAY:
PAN ARCADIA (7PM) <21+> It's Baby's night at Baby's All Right. - Greg
These bands, they know this stage well. It'll be a sellout, it'll be a Rock n Roll Nightclub. - Alex
Classics on classics - Caroline
NO STUPID QUESTIONS (11PM) <21+> Well the name just isn't true - I know everyone says that phrase, but it's just not true!!!! Band should be fun though =) - Greg
I'd love to see Greg's list of stupid questions. - Alex
Yes, I did initially think Alex booked a live event for this podcast. - Caroline
SATURDAY:
LUSTSICKPUPPY (7PM) <18+> American rapper, painter, make-up artist, and model, should be like tumblr+clown, it will look like a hip NYU party, and will most likely be one (tumblr era aesthetic). - Greg
This might be the gig of the week. Lustsickpuppy is cool as all heck - Alex
The whole aesthetic and sound makes me feel positively manic but like in a fun summer hot heat way - Caroline
DANG! (11PM) <21+> Party for those whomst loved going to Bar Mitzvas or the club circa early-mid oughts, hits hard. - Greg
The Pauz crew print tix like very few that have come before! Big time party time. - Alex
Honestly these sell out every time so they must be a freaking hoot and a half. - Caroline
SUNDAY:
THE VAN PELT (6:30PM) <21+> Legendary band from NYC in the 90's that keeps breaking up but then actually getting back together - brought to us by dear Saint Vitus <3 - Greg
So many bands that I could link to the sound of Van Pelt. Sultans of Sentiment is just such a good record. A very special show courtesy of St Vitus. - Alex
Beautiful music. - Caroline
Last Nite.
A friend of the Babyverse tells us about a cool show they went to.
Tope Ekunsami, prolific podcaster, refined tastemaker, diligent photographer, newest baby’s door person, and beloved friend tells us about the Slow Hollows show last week.
Sunday was a great night for any Slow Hollows fans. Their first time playing in NY after going on hiatus in 2019. Austin Teeks frontman of the band came back with an explosive new album Bullhead that came out in March.
Computerwife opened the night with a punk like shoegazey sound. They also put out an album in August of last year which I’m sad I slept on because they really kicked off the night. Definitely a NY based band you need to keep an eye on. Favorite song from them is definitely Lexapro.
Crazy how it’s been about 5 years since I last saw Slow Hollows play live and how fast time flies. Back then I was in college in Florida and they were opening for The Neighbourhood. Now I’m a 20-something in New York and they are headlining Baby’s All Right with a completely new lineup consisting of not one not two but three Nick’s. I’ve been obsessed with the new album since it dropped and being able to see it live was a great experience especially with the song tired which is one of my favorites off the album. You can really see the growth Austin has had lyrically and sonically and that truly translates through the live set.
This Week At Baby’s Official Playlist
and, just for fun, a new one from Sex Week.
