Hey hey. Happy New Year, even though we’re kinda past that? There’s a lot to look forward to this year (I think? I hope? Maybe drop a comment with something sweet on your horizon) but let’s start small and look at the week ahead with bb. - Caroline
TUESDAY:
DOWN TO MARS (9:30PM) <21+> We've gone back and forth for a good while now, so it's good to finally have Down To Mars at baby's! Bringing the funk, one show eve. Come check! - Alex
Cool soul/hiphop duo whomst seem quite talented. - Greg
Funky, beachy production on this one. Should be a chilled out night. - Caroline
WEDNESDAY:
JAYSON GREEN AND THE JERK (8PM) <21+> DFA records x Baby's, what a dream. Sam sent us the forthcoming Jayson Green tracks, and they hit. Hard. This will rule. - Alex
DFA records showcase of sorts - two live acts and a DJ. - Greg
Fun pop-punky kinda vibe, I believe this is their live debut? - Caroline
THURSDAY:
MIETTE HOPE (6:30PM) <18+> Miette is both a lovely person, and great performer. We had her play TRIBECA Fest, excited to have her back in headline form this month! - Alex
This artist gives future star in the making - pop style Brooklyn music, electronic and catchy, seems sweet and lovely. - Greg
Haunting melodies and hypnotic beats, I like this one. Plus, support from local powerhouse ROREY should make this a great night. - Caroline
LAVENDER & VELVET (9:30PM) <21+> I haven't yet met Alexis, but judging from our Zoom call and emails, they are a true legend. A party that has outgrown their previous venue. We're excited to kick things off at Baby's. The start of a gorgeous relationship! - Alex
Presented by CLASSICNEWWAVE, this band definitely knows what they are doing, they seem confident and professional, I'm imagining shredders. - Greg
CLASSICNEWWAVE is a super talented DJ, so bringing on some live elements should be energetic and fun. - Caroline
FRIDAY:
DIRT BUYER (7PM) <21+> Joe sends the best emails, and has the tracks to back it up. Dirt Buyer II, the whole fucking thing, is perfect. I really don't think anyone is doing what Joe is doing. Not at his level at least. - Alex
Everyone's favorite rocker, sending emails to everyone as their boss. A jokester who will give you his shirt off his back and say "Sorry" afterwards, but who makes insanely expert level songs that make you feel amazing. Incredible performers only. - Greg
I really do love this song. Plus, really strong support on this one from The Cradle and Benét. Get there on time. - Caroline
SATURDAY:
WINTER JAZZFEST (5PM) <21+> Easily in my top 5 nights of 2023. So excited for this year's rendition. The return of Cisco Swank to baby's + finally getting to see Steve Gunn live? Thanks. - Alex
We love this event. Every year, they're angels and it's such a cool vibe. - Greg
Full afternoon lineup of seriously talented artists, including Cisco Swank, who deserves some flowers. - Caroline
SUNDAY:
COREY HARPER (6:30PM) <AA+> This feels like it'll be sold out by the time Sunday rolls around. It's giving "kids lining up out front at 4PM." - Alex
A little bit of country, a little bit of pop. The children love it, adore it even. - Greg
Pretty, salty, acoustic-y. This one’s probably gonna sell out. - Caroline
Last Nite.
A friend of the Babyverse tells us about a cool show they went to.
Charlie Yates, a creative on sabbatical in rural Massachusetts until March or April, tells us about their New Year’s Eve at Baby’s.
You Missed It NYE 2024 was a homecoming dance. The hormonal, little-bit-too-fucked-up energy in the air was channeled by the performers into powerful vibrational force, especially new-to-me standout JessX joined by our hometown hero Joe Kerwin USA on bass. The night was even more special as it was my first time back in the city in a couple months. Hanging with friends long unseen, meeting new ones in the crowd, and getting offered an exotic variety of *****: the makings of a legendary night.
